The experience in England
as to the daily volume of
water required for domestic uses under varying conditions in towns may be stated as under, in each case the service being constant and at high-pressure.
Towns having populations up to 5,000 and not water. closeted, are served with an average of Ten gallons per head per day.
Towns having populations up to 20,000 and only partially watercloseted Twelve gallons per head per day.
Towns having populations at 20,000 and upwards, wholly water closeted Fifteen gallons per day, and in manufacturing towns, fully watercloseted, and including ordinary trade purposes - Eighteen gallons per head per
day.
In all these cases the mains, brauch-pipes, valves,
and house-fittings are the best, are
perfectly water-tight
and by unceasing supervision and repairs are maintained
tight
